Sadly, Iron Man was not the action hero movie I was hoping to see this weekend - maybe next weekend we'll see Watchmen. The weather was absolutely brutal on Saturday evening with a huge whiteout that happened in a matter of minutes, and today hubs had to work. Ah well! We enjoyed Iron Man and I think it's one of the best, or at least better, comic book movies made. The effects were pretty slick and the story was pretty good. I liked how technology was presented, such as the technomagical CAD software that Tony uses. Lots of explosions, some humour, a little suspense. I was surprised at how Jeff Bridges had aged. Pure popcorn flick, in other words. That's how you make an action movie!
How you don't make an action movie is to make it appear like it was written by 13 year old boys. Such was the case of Stealth with Josh Lucas, Jamie Foxx and Jessica Biel. Oh man, what a turkey! It had a lot of potential, but it just went on and on and it was so cheesy and cliche ridden. By the end of the movie I was looking up reviews on imdb and I couldn't even remember if the unmanned stealth plane (or "Extreme Deep Invader") died or not. It's just so bad, bad, awful, awful, bad. The whole point of renting it was for the "technology run amok" theme, but the EDI was soon forgotten amongst a corny love story and an unauthorized rescue mission. EDI had a pretty naive and childish nature...it wasn't evil like HAL and they didn't really explore much of it at all. Anyway, avoid that one unless you feel like boning up on your MST3K zingers.
