Writer's Block: Bird by Bird

I think this question is poorly worded and too vague - are the birds pet birds, poultry or zoo animals? This question needs to be clarified before I'm going to spend too much time writing about it.

On the same tangent, substitute "bird" for "hamster", "fish", "iguana" or "dog" and I bet people's answers would be quite different.

And substitute "cage" with apartment, yard, leash, bridle, paddock, barn, stall, reflecting pool, nature reserve.

I just realized that none of the animals I listed fly either, so make subs for that too, although a flying iguana would be pretty cool!
