Out Darn Stuff!

calzephyrWhew, I'm done on the post-grad clean up for a while. Garbage day is Tuesday and recycling pick-up is Wednesday, so I'll just have to wait a bit. I started in ony post-grad destashing and cleaning up in earnest last week. Like many people, it's hard to get motivated about cleaning, but the looming prospect of a home reno is very motivating!
I began by making a plan. As Twilight Sparkle would say, if fail to plan, you plan to fail. I made a rough sketch of the Ivar shelving units in our basement and drew up a to-do list.
Then I reached for the low hanging fruit and a box perfect for lots of recycling. Lots of recycling. I let go of old figure drawings. They are the giant sheets of newsprint in the picture below.
Our last big basement purge was in 2018 when we had a water leak. That was a very motivating time and we needed to get rid of a lot of things since we were two combined households with two lifetimes of stuff and 15 years of living in one place. I'm happy to say we resisted the temptation of buying more stuff during the past few years and only have mild regrets about some of the stuff we tossed or gave away.
I rounded up as many art supplies as possible and listed them for free on FB. A Girl Guide leader took a box of craft supplies. A lady picked up a pile of MDF boards, another lady took some yarn, and I also dispatched some small MLP things by mail. On top of that, I'm collecting a reusable bag of unused wool for my fibre program. A bit of fabric here, some cones of cotton there--and students will have some stash to use. Honestly, I don't know where all the art and craft supplies come from!
This past Friday was my Friday off and I didn't want to spend it all day cleaning, but since it was another hot hot hot day, it wasn't so bad to be in the basement. I still sweated terribly though and I had to ease up on Saturday because my shoulder was sore. I tackled more of it today, but I'm just done. It would be nice to kick back and read a book or something to wind up the weekend.
