We kind of said "Merry Christmas to us!" and bought a James Bond movie collection after we discovered that the cost of digitally renting all the movies would be as much, if not more, than just buying the box set. With a couple of exceptions, the only Bond movies we have watched are the Daniel Craig ones, so we have a lot of catching up to do!
The first movie in the franchise is 1962's Dr. No which is somewhat low-key for an action movie these days. It's kind of neat to see how the filmmakers were trying to figure this whole spy action genre out. We were so not prepared for the peppy opening titles:
There's plenty of punches and a couple of car chases. Unlike many Bond films, there's just one locale--Jamaica. The movie really shone with the interior designs and sets, particularly Dr. No's lair. One wonders how many guests Dr. No entertains since he has a whole undersea hotel :-D
