This Old House
Jan. 10th, 2021 09:49 pmLJ can still be pretty hand, even if you don't use it to log teenage anxieties anymore. There are still plenty of adult ones! I like that LJ helps me remember things that would get fuzzy with time, like the last time we had to call a plumber. It was a very expensive visit just to replace a $30 shower knob.
Ugh!
Of course, when the shower knob broke in 2019, we didn't know that was the problem. Our house is now 20+ years old and stuff is going to break, so why not the shower controller? Ugh, hubs is still fuming about that plumber visit.
Anyway, a couple of months ago, the shower knob broke yet again. Argh! I went to Home Depot, bought a replacement one and hubs handily installed it. I complained to Moen on Twitter and I was kind of shocked that they made it so easy to get a replacement knob, even though I just wanted my $30 really. A couple of weeks later, the new knob arrived, so we're prepared for next time.
You can see in the pic below how the plastic stem part inside the knob broke. The Moen Twitter rep explained that hard water can cause the knobs to break, which might be our case. Moen has a kit that uses a metal part, so I guess after we go through a couple more knobs we can give that a try :-)
