I’m still experimenting and trying to figure out my hair. I quit plopping, but instead just gently wrap an old t-shirt over my head. I found plopping and letting my hair air dry also made it hard and crunchy.

I also dared to reintroduce heat! We have an old cheap hair dryer with low and high heat. The low heat is not exactly cool—but I just hold it farther away from my head.

It takes lots of washes to start seeing a difference. I know my hair is getting curlier because I’m finding long curly hair in the tub. It feels so dumb—even the way you wash your hair makes a difference. No more leaning back. Now I lean forward and make sure to scrunch my curls and get them as wet as possible. I’m enjoying it though—simply living without a dry and itchy scalp has improved my life 110%.

As far as product recommendations go, I highly Wet Brush’s detangling brush. You can use it in the shower (always use on wet hair). It’s strong and flexible enough to move through thick hair like mine. It's also easily available at drugstores and under $20.
