Let's learn about grey water
Jul. 27th, 2021 01:27 pmI wasn't able to pin down why we were using so much water despite trying not to use water, but after polling the community FB group, I didn't feel so bad. With everyone working from home, we're just using more water.
I don't know why I didn't think of this before, but as I watched the lawn turn brown from the heat dome, I got the brilliant idea of collecting grey water. Grey water is gently used, uncontaminated water that can be used again.
I started by taking a 2 US gallon bucket into the shower with me and filled it even though I had a short shower. Splooosh! It went on the lawn later.
Then, I started collecting water in the kitchen sink with a 1ish gallon tub. It's amazing how much water it takes to wash produce or even rinse something! Sploosh! It went on the lawn later too.
Diverting up to 3 gallons a week or 11.3 litres may not seem like a lot in the grand scheme of things, but it's a start. If I want to start collecting laundry water, here's where I can find the know how: https://greywateraction.org
