We took the bus downtown today for lunch in Chinatown and bubble tea afterwards (mmm, fresh juiced peaches!) before we saw The Shatner Show at Art Central. It was fabulous, even though it's just a small space. There was a giant bust of William Shatner in Lego for $16K, and other more traditional paintings, prints and drawings. You can see all the images in the above URL. My favourite is the one by Douglas Fraser. I have no idea why! Fraser's work is pretty popular and always appealing...

It's hot out again today. I barely had the energy to run for the bus. I think that peach drink did me in!

You seem to find all the interesting things in and around Calgary. I had no idea of a Shatner Show. Bubble tea is awesome, too!

Oh yeah :-D The guy at the Chinese supermarket near us says you can make the pearls yourself, although the texture is easy to get wrong, apparently. Maybe there's some magical place were you can buy premade ones :-)

Probably can get ones where you just add water or something. I'm going to have to ask my friends about the Chinese name for bubble tea - I know it's called something like "bobo", but knowing the little I do about Mandarin I'm sure it's a pun. (For example, The Beatles are "Pi-toh", which sounds similar to the English and means "people with funny hairdos".)

I have heard it called boba tea before. I'm taking German right now through work and I'm finding the things are a little too literally translated funny.

Art Central is so awesome, especially on the first Thursday of every month when they have events going on and live music, etc. It seems one needs to find the right artsy fartsy friends to know about all the cool little things that go on here :-)

Bud had to really try hard to get me to try bubble tea on our first date. Now I prefer them to Slurpees :-)

My friends are boring, but don't tell them I said that. :p It's always a movie or shopping... never anything interesting.

Bubble tea is so much better than a slurpee and better for you, too.

You know, I cannot recall seeing that one! I'm not sure if a few sold or what, but there's several pieces (such as the other bust with leaves for hair) than I can't remember seeing but are on the website.

Oh! Sometimes I have a hard time dragging peeps out to artsy fartsy things. I posted it to [livejournal.com profile] calgarians, so maybe more people will have their lives enriched! I wish there was something that I'd like to see going on at the Glenbow. None of the new exhibits is cranking my tractor.
