Our bird feeder has attracted a big gray pigeon. I scared him when I went to refill it this morning and he left huge footprints in the snow. He's not park pigeon, for sure. I hope he doesn't bring too many friends though! Once you get pigeons, it's hard to get rid of them :S

I'm surprised, I've never had a pigeon at a feeder of mine, despite being in semi-urban areas all the time. I get lots of house sparrows, but I don't really mind. I just wish I got some goldfinches for all the thistle I have in the mix. What types of seeds you using?

I was surprised too because I have never seen a pigeon around here before. We live very close to the edge of town, so we have lots of critters - ducks and geese fly overhead, we have lots of wild rabbits, and a gopher under our step...mice are under the deck (eek!)...the occasional owl and hawk. We get lots of robins and housefinches in the summer, and once I even had a meadowlark land on the deck.

The bird seed is just whatever I can find...the new stuff I bought last night has sunflower seeds, peanuts and corn in it with regular seed. No wonder we get everything in our yard, they know where the buffett is :-)

we had two collard doves on ours this afternoon. they were roosting. they looked lovely, unfortunately whislt sat on the food nothing else could eat!
