Everyone needs a little sunshine
Aug. 27th, 2008 09:48 pmIf this sounds glurgy, I apologize in advance. Once again, I encountered a bee in distress. You know, I believe in the divine plan of the universe, even if it's not always apparent at first. To everything there is a reason. My original plan on this mostly gloomy Wednesday was to go to the library after work, but I missed the bus and just went home. I took a shortcut and came upon a poor little bee sprawled out on the sidewalk. Its little behind was orange and its little legs were splayed out; it was the very picture of exhaustion.
I love bees, truly, and it seemed such a shame for the little thing to end ingloriously smushed under someone's shoe. I scooped it up on a little scrap of paper, and here its little legs moved just a little. At first I thought about just putting it behind the newspaper box to wait for the end, but then I thought, maybe it just needed a little sun. After deciding that either flowerbed would be a poor choice due to ants, I gently placed it underneath the sheltering leaves of some petunias in a planter. They themselves only had a little more life left in them as the weather gets cooler.
About an hour later, I noticed that the sun had finally come out, so I checked on the planter. To my utter delight, it had warmed up and the bee had flown away. Godspeed little bee, if only for another day.
