Zombie LJs

If you still have an LJ, you may have been receiving a ton of notices that someone liked your post. When you check to see who liked your post, chances are good that it goes back to a zombie LJ, where the last entry was over ten years ago and the newest one is some kind of spammy link. LJ sent out an email yesterday to ask people to change their passwords.

If you have an old LJ kicking around, you may want to log in and change the password and maybe check your friends list for other zombie LJs. You don't know who you're giving your information way to!

Piffle. First LJ sent me an email noting my inactivity and recommending that I change my password to something combining letters and numbers, then I got a 'someone "liked" your post' notice. It was a sticky post on Broniesaremagic from like 5 years ago. I snorted and moved on. LJ has become more and more dysfunctional for me. I have to enable cookies to even see my "friends page" and even then no replies are visible. I leave javascript off. I am not jumping through their flaming Terms of Service hoop.

Ugh, the TOS...yes...it sucks that they hold your data hostage like that :-(

It just keeps me from posting new entries. My entire LJ plus comments is here on DW and everything I posted on Broniesaremagic I also posted on ponyville_trot.

Hey, it's good to know the news! I think I'll be hip to the recommend of maybe leaving it alone. All of my entries are so old and I was extremely cryptic a ton of the time. Plus I was attempting to use it again, saw the dreaded like-buttons had been installed there, almost ralphed and then noticed someone mentioning dreamwidth. "Oh? What is that?"

And then: Two Acres of Vacationland from "Payday"! I love this site! Even my pen pal, "Hidden Object" got told by me in my wealth of excitement and relief.

Hmm... now I'm wondering. If my zombie blog likes someone will that be a new form of free advertising for me? (((shrug))) ^_^

Totally - I always share these things because we often accidentally leave an unwanted digital trail. Our data is always at the mercy of others.
