Love Machine!
Dec. 16th, 2020 01:40 pmWe were watching the budgies barf and kiss and I commented that Will was a love machine. Will was always at the bottom of the pecking order. Now that it's just him and Tweety, he has a very captive audience. Tweety looked like he had to have coffee first but Will was ready for the love barf. He was squeaking, dipping and dancing in anticipation and I started singing Love Machine. You know, the song made famous by the Miracles:
And if you are of a younger generation, Wham!
I realized that after all these years I didn't actually know the lyrics to Love Machine, so I got a big laugh when I looked them up. They probably went right over my head as a kid anyway! They sound totally corny and written by a teenager but with the right vocalists, a hit was born! :-)

Gotta Go Flamingo
Sep. 28th, 2020 07:20 amGeez, take a week off from Facebook and this ad popped up. Man, I could be so rich if I only knew the right person to pitch a pooping, talking, dancing flamingo to!
I didn't know that bardcore was a thing until recently. I'm not sure how I stumbled across it, but YouTube it happy to show you video after video once you discover it. Some songs are acoustic versions of rock songs or ones that have medieval sounding style. My favourite ones, though, have lyrics, like these two.
Workity Work
Jul. 5th, 2019 07:55 amI was starting to write up a very LJ worthy post about a day at work this past week, but as I described it to my husband, he said "That sounds like a bad Muppet show sketch." Huh! Where had I seen this before...
The Abdomenizer
Jan. 12th, 2019 10:12 pmx-posted to Vintage Ads on LJ
I happened to catch this article tantalizingly titled "The retro piece of exercise equipment my parents couldn’t give up". If that's not a "But wait, there's more!" call to action, I don't know what is. I was both embarrassed and shocked to discover that I am now officially old - that everything from my teenage years is retro :-D
Anyway, a little Googling revealed that The Abdomenizer is actually a Canadian invention and that it was developed by a real doctor, not an actor. Judging from the comments on the video, some people swear by it...so, who knows?

Weirdsville!
Aug. 3rd, 2018 09:47 pmThis happened close enough to my hometown that I'm still embarrassed about it!
Basically it's a 1 minute video highlighting the antics of a couple pursued by police - the woman climbs into the ceiling of a convenience store and falls out while her boyfriend is being tackled.

Birds are jerks!
Feb. 10th, 2018 12:49 pmI thought David Attenborough being interrupted by the bird of paradise was awesome, but this is better :-)
Disco the budgie passes away
Jul. 28th, 2017 09:55 pmAw, some sad news. On Disco's FB page it was revealed that he passed away back in January. If you haven't watched Disco's delightful videos, check them out.
happy birthday william shatner!
Mar. 22nd, 2017 09:50 pmLoblaws is an Eastern Canadian supermarket chain - in Western Canada they are called Real Canadian Superstore (or Stupidstore - I hate shopping there!)

Recipe goes horribly wrong on local news
Dec. 18th, 2016 09:48 pmSpeaking of my super hot muffins, here's a potluck entry that didn't go so well on local news.
My favourite YouTube comment is: "I admire that woman, she messed up a recipe but instead of throwing it away she decided to torture people with it."
LMAO! Awww!

Back in the day Tim Horton's was mostly just coffee and donuts - now you can get lunch, soup, sandwiches and more fast :-D I think sometimes it was mostly a regional thing - I grew up in Western Canada where you were most likely to see Sir Donut and Robin's Donuts. Now you can't find either.

The Happy Prince
Apr. 29th, 2015 09:32 pmIt might surprise some to realize that Oscar Wilde wrote a few fairy tales in addition to his books and plays. A friend was looking for a tear jerker, so I suggested the animated version of The Happy Prince, narrated by Christopher Plummer. The only versions on YouTube are a little blurry, but it doesn't detract from the bittersweet tale of love and compassion.

OK, here's an ad from where I have called home for the past 20 years. I guess when you've lived in a place that long, it becomes home. Why I never moved back to Edmonton is kind of a mystery, but I feel like a tourist when I visit now. My husband has lived here all his life and once shared with me one of his favourite childhood memories. Watch the video and then I'll tell you the rest of the story...
I accidentally crushed my husband's feelings when I discovered that "Hello Calgary" was not unique - although it was one of the first "Hello" spots used around the world in the 80s from the US to Toowomba. If you want to learn more about the Hello campaign, it was featured earlier on an episode of This American Life :-)

I hope you can all see this video that I found on Facebook and fortunately found on YouTube. It's a HOOT! It makes Muffin whistle and squeak. My husband asked me what the heck I was watching :-D
Life in the Dreamhouse
Feb. 8th, 2014 10:47 pmSo, I saw the weirdest things on YouTube last night and it didn't involve the genre known as YTP or the latest Cyriak animation. Nope, this trip to weirdsville involves the officially sanctioned, poorly animated and illogically written children's cartoon. It's true that we've come a long way from the 80s, where a show featuring Mr. T as a bodyguard to a squad of gymnasts hit the air (it's notable for being Maurice Lamarr's debut voice acting gig). Did I mention they were cross country travelling, crime fighting gymnasts? Am I the only one that remembers this? Thankfully the Internet never forgets:
( But wait, there's more! )
