Besides having our own little James Bond marathon, we’re also having a Clint Eastwood marathon. Years ago we bought a giant boxed set from the comic expo and finally cracked it open. Clint Eastwood has always struck me as one of those sphinx-like people that you can never really get a bead on. Like James Garner, I feel like he’s always just playing himself in all his movies, which accounts for his success. Authenticity goes a long long way!
I didn’t realize that there were so many Dirty Harry movies, so I’ll leave that for one big post when we have watched them all. Also, it turned out that this boxed set just featured movies he made with Warner Brothers. Still, it’s a lot of movies—35 to be exact.
1984's Tightrope may be the closest that Clint Eastwood comes to starring in a horror movie. It's a suspense thriller with just enough horror nods to push into that territory. Eastwood plays a single dad, Wes Block, who tries to juggle his work, family and personal lives. There's a lot of things that go left unsaid in this movie which adds to the intrigue. Block delves into the seedier side of New Orleans (not just for work purposes) and attracts the attention of a serial killer.
It's quite gripping, even today. The film was originally rated R and while it doesn't contain much spicy language, it does contain adult themes and female nudity.
