This Old House
Apr. 25th, 2021 12:52 pmAnd so begins the annual struggle to get stuff done outside the house. I contacted a handyman with three jobs that he and his buddy could do in a day. Might as well get them all done at once, right?
Well, not this weekend. Wet snow that is falling and it's just enough to make it miserable enough the work can't be done.
These are the jobs:
#1 Edge the lawn
You know those people that always edged lawns and your bike tire got stuck in the gap? We're going to be those people! Seriously, somehow how the lawn on all sides has been trying to overtake the sidewalk. I poked around and there's 4" of sidewalk covered in some places. This job can be done with a special spade and some twine, or you can get a motorized tool.
#2 Rehang the siding and fix the latch
Yep, the sunroom company never got back to us about rehanging the siding from the time someone tried to break into the deck last year. The handyman looked at the pictures and thought they attacked the door with a cordless Sawzall.
#3 Moving the big pile of dirt
The company that installed the ham radio antenna was supposed to remove the dirt from the hole, but surprise! They did the installation at the end of the season when it was just starting to snow and never came back. They used too much concrete in parts and while I have removed some of that, it's going to take more than two pairs of hands to remove the big pile of dirt. We made some in-roads, but it's difficult without a wheelbarrow. We can't find a neighbour yet to lend us one. The dirt is just going around the corner of the garage, so it's fairly easy.
It's such a slim window to get something done in April where the weather and availability of labourers need to align! Hopefully next weekend.
