This is the perfect kind of LJ entry, the GAFB entry.
We went to our local clinic for flu shots on Friday and it wasn't a huge ordeal, but the encounter just left me puzzled. Call me old school, but the social contract between customer and service provider made me rather nostalgic for a time when you were greeted and looked after.
We were the only people in the clinic that afternoon and two clerks sat behind the reception desk. They didn't seem too busy. I approached and greeted the clerk, who did not greet me back. I explained that Dr. H suggested we arrive around 1:30 for flu shots. TBH, Dr. H caused a bit of his own chaos by not mentioning this to his clerk.
The clerk busied herself looking me up in the computer and said, "That will be $30."
I thought flu shots were free, but okay, whatever.
"Is that just for me or for my husband too?" I asked.
She furrowed her brow while she looked up my husband. "Just for you."
"Does that mean he can't get a flu shot?"
"No. The $30 is for your doctor's note."
Ahhhhh! Okay. Clearly my mind-reading powers were made sludgy by a recent illness.
I paid the fee, had a receipt shoved at me, and the clerk got up and said, "You can come in this room." She disappeared into the back and by the time we opened the foreboding grey door to the back, she was gone.
She didn't say what room nor was she waiting by one.
Fortunately Dr. H popped out of another room and pointed us to room #1.
Where the clerk went, I had no idea...but the whole encounter was just so baffling!
There's a reason this clinic gets 1.8/5 stars on Google...it's always been a turd place. Dr. H used to have his own office across the street until he became semi-retired. Thank goodness we don't have to wander in there too often.

Date: 2022-12-05 03:10 pm (UTC)Yeah! There are loads of three-month clinic assistant/unit clerk type courses here and I think they just push students out the door fast. If you work in healthcare, you have to be prepared to work with the public :-)
