It's been a while,
thefridayfive!
1. If you were a girl in the 70’s in the U.S., you were expected to take Home Ec. in high school. Did you and what did you take from the class, if anything? If you are a guy, would you have liked to have had the option of taking it?
2. How were your school lunches?
3. Did you walk, take a bus, or have someone drive you to school?
4. Were there any classes there were off limits to you because of your sex?
5. Looking back on it now, what was the biggest life lesson you took from high school?
1. Born in the 70s...I had the choice of taking home ec, outdoors or shop class by the time I hit junior high.
2. My elementary schools did not have a cafeteria, and I couldn't afford to buy lunch in junior or senior high most of the time.
3. All three, at various times.
4. No. Gym class was mixed.
5. Adults can't be trusted :-D

Date: 2023-09-18 04:32 am (UTC)I briefly lived in the 70's but wasn't in high school at the time. So I feel like I lived in the 70s mostly from all these left over remnants we had laying around in the early 1980s :D I was often so curious about Home Economics and what the big whoop was over it. Sort of a "What did I miss?" figuring. School lunches: pretty dismal and kind of "Is this really food?" reaction. Although a friends' mom worked in school food service so they brought home extras and those were often better than what my own schools had. Depending on the school there was a bit of all three for voyage. I don't recall any classes being off-limits for any reason other than they listed stuff that wasn't available and didn't tell us until the box had already been checked. Oh, good on the HS life lesson! For me it was: ESCAPE! And that I took with me later in life to find Dreamwidth, thank Heavens! ^_^
