Once Upon A Time...in Hollywood
Jun. 2nd, 2026 05:34 amIt's been raining cats and dogs and horses and cows since Sunday, so we caught up on Quentin Tarantino movies. We still have to watch a few, but Once Upon A Time...in Hollywood seemed the right kind of movie as opposed to Django Unchained or Inglorious Basterds.
It's been a while since we watched something so cinematic--and it was hard not to be drawn into this version of 1969 Hollywood. There was so much to look at, and most importantly feel from the bonds of friendship, to humour, to drama, and even some horror elements.
Is it a historical document? Heck no. The film does, however, provide an access point to changing tastes through Rick Dalton's character and his struggle to cope with the times as a has-been. As the title implies, it's also a fairytale with a lot of what-ifs. The penultimate scenes are absolutely a revenge fantasy of some sort.
