Learning to fly
Jun. 18th, 2006 10:36 pmOur yard, both front and back, was full of baby sparrows today. We had some rare sunshine this morning and I went out to finish painting the deck (will it ever be done?). After a while, I noticed a lot of activity in the back tree. Literally, little sparrows were crashing into it. They started out from the pine trees across the street and hoped for the best, I guess :-D Same out front. They were trying to make it from the front tree to the bird feeder, and more often than not, they missed the feeder. It was really funny to watch them from inside. The feeder was full yesterday and it's empty now. The fat, fuzzy babies were all over the ground and fighting each other for what was there. I think bean sprouts are growing from the bird seed too. This leafy green stuff sprouted overnight with all the rain. I pulled out a handful and the roots were just like bean sprouts! I took several photos of them on the feeder, I'm sure there's a future picture there :-)
