calzephyr: Imoen from BG (RPG)
If there's one thing about the Internet, it's that there's no shortage of people passionate about a single topic, and no shortage of people making a dream into reality. I finished playing the Eye of the Beholder mod for Neverwinter Nights a week or so ago and was really pleased. I have the original game on CD, but never got very far in it due to clunky controls. Of all the NWN mods I've played, this one was far better than the paid mods :-)

A classic hack and slash, the levels were often large and complicated, with plenty of false walls, tricks and traps. For henchmen I took along Tod Uphill, who was extremely helpful, and a dog you can rescue from being kobold kibble, creatively named Dof. Although Dof died often, he soon developed an awesome knockdown skill which came in handy in the many spider levels. He really proved his worth on the level with rust eaters. That was a frustrating level...my characters played in the nude and lost a few good weapons, but Dof had nothing to rust on him :-) My character was a fighter/wizard/druid, so she also had Paullie the hawk and Githra the panther to attack people. Githra has to be the coolest random name ever!

The puzzles had me stumped, especially the riddle door, which could only be opened from the other side. I never seemed to have enough of a particular kind of key too. There is a walk through available, but the maps don't match the ones in the final version of the game, which was a little frustrating. There were some places were I used a few console cheats to get around buggy problems, particularly at the end. It was very good though, lots of opportunity for strategy and plenty to loot too! Oh, I love that in a game :-)
