Did someone say slow cooker?
Dec. 1st, 2008 06:02 pmI impulse bought a Better Homes & Gardens slow cooker special. I adore my slow cooker. It's the best gift that my husband has ever bought me! I even want to write a poem about it, but I only have the last line down - "Wrap your cord around me and let me turn you on". Yup, I feel that strongly about the slow cooker! It's love every time I lift the lid at 5:30.
What really got my attention was the headline "Make breakfast while you sleep!". Wow! I never thought about the possibility of making 4 quarts of oatmeal before! Seriously! More likely I'll end up making the creme brulee or French toast, or the loaded hash browns some Sunday. I'm wondering if the slow cooker's Little Dipper cousin gets hot enough to make oatmeal. The manual just says it gets hot enough for the "perfect serving temperature", whatever that is.
The magazine has some great ideas for double duty dishes, which I'm always on the hunt for. I can make up a big batch of shredded beef, pork or chicken and freeze it to use later for stir fries and noodle dishes. It's not just the usual stews, chilis and soups, which get a little boring after a while.
