calzephyr: Scott Pilgrim generator (books)
Julie of the Wolves was one of my favourite books as a child, and like most kids that liked the book, I dreamed of living farther north than I already did at the time and cavorting with friendly wolves. I ran out to the corner store tonight to get some milk and brrrr, that was cold enough for me. I'm not sure I would have made it very far in the wild ;-)

Right now I'm reading The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein and I'm finding it hard to read. The only other Heinlein books I have read are Starship Troopers and Citizen of the Galaxy and didn't have too much trouble then. It's the stilted language of the Loonies that slows me down - most of the time I'm finding the story a little unintelligible!

Another book that I will have to finish later is The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan. I got about halfway through it, and then had to return it to the library. My cold wasn't helping things either - it's the kind of book that requires an alert and hardy reader. Just about every chapter will break your mind! It's pretty intense. Although I have always been aware of many issues surrounding farming, I did not realize just how deep and tightly the tentacles of modern agriculture reached, nor how much North America relies on corn. It's kind of silly, to live in a province known for its agriculture and not know that corn is detrimental to cows - but there are just some things they don't tell ya at Aggie Days! And once again the consumer is left with little choice about how food is made - even organic farming can happen on an industrial scale.
