Majesty 2: Even the waiting is legendary!
Dec. 6th, 2009 09:55 pmThe other week when I was in EB Games with Timban I thought I was seeing hallucinating, and I almost completely missed it. EB was almost completely devoid of PC games, and when I mentioned this to Timban, he helpfully showed me the one rack at the back that had PC games. That itself was pretty shocking. There was one last copy of Majesty 2 on the shelf, and when he asked if there were more copies in the back, I was surprised that the clerk came back with two (life often imitates Penny Arcade, you know!).
The original Majesty was a very popular fantasy kingdom SIM back in 2000; I checked the website faithfully for updates, and when sequel screencaps finally appeared a few years ago, I thought I would have it in my hot little hands soon. It was definitely worth the wait. I played the training mission and they kept all the good things about the game - the humour, the voice acting and a lot of the same functionality. The bitmappy graphics have been replaced by a lush 3D world. It's better than the original, which is so rare for sequels. The only thing I don't like is the futzy way you have to hold down both mouse buttons to move across the screen.
The only thing I have yet to test out is the internet game play. The last time we tried to play Majesty on a LAN, it just wouldn't work...Queen Christine will take on all challengers to the throne otherwise!
