Mar. 9th, 2014 04:14 pmSo I trekked out to Michaels with my 40% off coupon and bought cutting mats for the Cricut. It's true that last year's new year resolution was to not shop at Michaels, and I did it, with the exception of having to buy a pinback for class.
There was a software upgrade for my Pazzles and I installed it...and discovered to my disappointment that the machine no longer makes its weird and wacky operating sound. Honestly, as my husband said, "It sounds like a fax machine having an orgasm." No more woo, wee, err, nuhnuhnuh, brrrrreeeeee, woo, woo, wee! as it cuts. It just kind of quietly grinds away. I don't see any changes in the software, but after trying Make The Cut, I discovered that the Inspiration program isn't that bad. I can get by with using CorelDraw and importing the shapes.
The "standard grip" Cricut map seems to be as sticky as the regular Pazzles mat, and it's about a quarter of an inch smaller on all sides. Naturally I forgot to take my old mat with me, but that's when happens when you're trying to leave the house while the feathered fire engine wails away. It still works though - one just has to be super careful aligning it to the right side of the tray.
