Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts
Apr. 11th, 2020 03:42 pmSometimes it pays to stick with a series even if you don't love it at first. This was the case with Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts which began as a webcomic by Dreamworks artist Radford Sechrist. The webcomic had a short run before it was picked up by Dreamworks as a cartoon, but there are some pages on DeviantArt. In the near future, Kipo accidentally escapes from her underground burrow to discover the world outside.
I think I would have found the webcomic a lot more palatable than the show. The animation is fresh and colourful, but uggggghhhhhh Kipo is the kind of person introverts run away from. She's so insufferable IMHO--she's too loud, doesn't listen to Wolfgirl, always has to be rescued because she doesn't listen and touches everyone's stuff. For someone that grew up in a place where teamwork was essential, Kipo is lousy at it. She's also stupid lucky. Throughout the first four or five episodes she thwarts danger by luck and charisma and it's dang annoying because Wolfgirl is always getting the spotlight stolen from her. However, throughout the series, Kipo eventually tames her lack of self-preservation and learns to become a better leader. The first season left on a heck of a cliffhanger, so I hope season two doesn't disappoint.
