One of my favourite Slashcode-style news blogs is down, so I have turned to reading MetaFilter (which is not a bad thing by any means :-D). Anyway, someone posted some links to towns that were bought because of environmental disaster. Probably the most interesting one is Centralia, PA, which has had an underground coal seam burning for many years now.

Date: 2006-06-03 10:33 am (UTC)I remember the burning coal seam, if its the same one. in his book `A walk in the Woods` Bill bryson , who is on a 600 mile trek over america, comes across it. he says its mostly abandonded but there is still a few die hard old people there. You know, i hope I dont ever come so stuck in my ways I refuse to change even is it costs my health.
