No longer a Harry Potter virgin!
Aug. 2nd, 2007 05:15 pmI'm up to chapter 4 in the first book. I bought it about ten years ago and it's been sitting on the shelf ever since. I was wide awake last week and just happened to find it. You could say it magically popped into my hands :-)
I'm enjoying it so far. The one thing that peeves me about SF/Fantasy writing is just how formulaic it is, even down to the sentence structure, but there is something so natural about the way J.K. Rowling writes :-)

Date: 2007-08-02 11:38 pm (UTC)I agree that some parts of Rowling's writing can be quite formulaic -- I called several of the final plot developments for the 7th book once I had read the 6th book (as many people in the world did also).
There are some very creative aspects to it as well, though, and, as I posted about on my blog, overall, this book series is one that I have enjoyed immensely.
I'm sorry it is over -- and also gravely disappointed with the epilogue of the final book. I hope something gets changed when they go to make the film version of it. We saw the 5th movie last week, and it was excellent -- probably the best film in the series thus far.
