I'm up to chapter 4 in the first book. I bought it about ten years ago and it's been sitting on the shelf ever since. I was wide awake last week and just happened to find it. You could say it magically popped into my hands :-)

I'm enjoying it so far. The one thing that peeves me about SF/Fantasy writing is just how formulaic it is, even down to the sentence structure, but there is something so natural about the way J.K. Rowling writes :-)

Yay! I'm so glad you've started! You'll be hooked now!! LOL :D If you want to borrow the rest of the books, let me know, I have a copy of each of them. I've already read the last one of course, and my husband is reading it now. Although it will be a while before you'll need the 7th book. ;)

I agree that some parts of Rowling's writing can be quite formulaic -- I called several of the final plot developments for the 7th book once I had read the 6th book (as many people in the world did also).

There are some very creative aspects to it as well, though, and, as I posted about on my blog, overall, this book series is one that I have enjoyed immensely.

I'm sorry it is over -- and also gravely disappointed with the epilogue of the final book. I hope something gets changed when they go to make the film version of it. We saw the 5th movie last week, and it was excellent -- probably the best film in the series thus far.

Man, I've tried to reply to this three times and either LJ eats it or something stupid happens :-) I finished it this weekend and I really enjoyed it, it was so thoroughly plesant and actually quite funny in parts. I'm going to the library tomorrow, so I'll pick up the second one while I'm there.

I'm sure JK Rowling will find something new to write about - I imagine an author like that wouldn't stay idle for long.

Lol! I bought the first book a couple of years ago and have yet to read it. Ten years! I didn't know the series was that old, of course I don't think I'd even heard of it till the first movie came out.

I checked the date, it was put out in 1998, so it's almost 10 years :-) That's a long time for a book franchise to be around and still have as much steam as it does! I still have to see the movies.

I'm not too worried about spoilers since I don't frequent HP fan sites. I don't think I'll ever be a hardcore HP fan if I haven't been one by now. I just can't get into a series like some peeps :-)
