The Woman Who Loved Reindeer

When the post-sedation instructions say "NO STAIRS" they really mean it, and even the six stairs leading up in our three-level split seem daunting. I convinced myself that I was not Superwoman and resigned myself to bed to finish The Woman Who Loved Reindeer by Meredith Ann Pierce. The last time I read one of her books was about five years ago and I'll have to find more by her. It really is a different kind of fantasy novel and I wasn't sure where it was going until about the middle. Even the heroine, Cari, is atypical - she goes from social outcast to respected wisewoman when her people are forced to place their trust in her and her mysterious golden reindeer.

Me too, it's a great painting. You'll probably like her Firebringer Trilogy as well. It's possibly the best series written about unicorns ever!
