Invasion of the pod thingies

The coolest thing is taking place on the outside of our screen door right now - a caterpillar is emerging from a tiny cocoon. Several pod things are on the screen door as well as the adjacent siding. I wasn't sure what they were, and they appeared rather out of the blue. Lo and behold, with a little sunshine, it's trying to come out. It can't quite do it though, so it and the pod are inching up the glass. I wonder what it's going to turn into.
