Let's try new foods

My dislike of Chinese food is pretty strong, and it's pretty strange since I like Japanese and Vietnamese food. One of my co-workers was shocked and after telling her some things that I had tried and disliked, she suggested that I probably don't like oyster sauce based dishes and gave me the names of some things to try with garlic sauce. She also recommendeds Sun's BBQ on Centre St. N. We went there tonight and I had the Shredded Pork with Tofu. Oh man was it good! It was an extremely savoury dish, the tofu was creamy like mousse and the shredded pork went well with rice. I'm glad I told her my crabby story about Chinese food :-)
I like Patak's Indian food sauces, so I was expecting a lot when I bought their butter chicken sauce in a jar. Avoid! Not only is this sauce totally the wrong colour for butter chicken, but it's totally the wrong flavour as well. It wasn't even warmly spiced like good butter chicken.
At least Jyoti's Punjabi Chhole didn't disappoint. Despite being hideously high in sodium (a half cup has 680mg of sodium) it's so delish and goes well on toast, rice and spaghetti. It made lunches quite easy too - I made extra rice or spaghetti, and carefully doled out a half cup as I watch my sodium intake. I never thought chickpeas, onions and potatoes could go that far or be so good.
