Whew, thankfully it was only the last few chapters that had me groaning in agony. And boy, does that middle drag! I don't know if I should subject myself to Eclipse or just go right to Breaking Dawn :-D For some reason I don't find myself disliking the books despite my comments. I was also thankful that there was quite a bit of intrigue this time and the detail oriented school scenes were out. Boy...I wish I could properly articulate how this saga makes me feel, neither bad nor good, although maybe just a little giddy. I've even subjected my poor husband to certain passages. These books were meant to be read aloud, with one hand gently resting on the forehead in a mock swoon. I'm going to give it a break so I can get some stuff done though!

Date: 2009-08-07 10:16 pm (UTC)It's true there are probably better things that I could have done for the time I spent on them (two whole evenings!) but truth be told, I have a hard time winding down in the evening and New Moon was a perfect distraction.

I liked the beginning and the end of New Moon, and that's about it. I actually quite liked Eclipse -- I'd have to read it again, but I had thought Eclipse may have been my favourite of the series -- perhaps second to Midnight Sun. ;) I'm not a Jacob fan though. Wanted to smack him in Eclipse. Sigh.
Breaking Dawn....is like a whole OTHER entity on to itself....I'm just going to keep my mouth shut until you finish the series. :D
And EVERYONE agrees -- SMeyer is no writer -- even the twihards will agree that SMeyer really could have used a better editor. SMeyer and her editor(s)...should really feel CHAGRINED about their overuse of the WORD CHAGRIN.
"You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means." LOL
Chagrin is a word I really never want to come across in any writing ever again. And how eyes "tighten" -- what does that even mean?!?! There were so many things "infinitesimally tightening"....WTF?!? LOL
In any case, it's a great diversion, isn't it? Despite the (lack of) writing, I still enjoyed the series overall, and I really look forward to the rest of the movies.
I've heard good things about a new series that has just started called "Shiver". The first book just came out, and the sequel is coming out Fall 2010. I may read that next.... I like to read for fun and diversion, and tend to avoid heavily traumatic/dramatic books. The last "serious" books I read were The Time Traveler's Wife and also The Memory Keeper's Daughter. They were both very sad. The movie for Time Traveler's Wife comes out next week.
I just read Sophie Kinsella's new book last week -- Twenties Girl. That was cute. :)
Keep me posted on your twi-reading -- once you've finished the series, you, Lisa, and I should all meet up and discuss! :D
