If I still didn't glance at Slashdot now and then, I would totally be in the dark about this, not that I have anything to worth saving.

Hubs and I were speculating just what does Yahoo! do these days? To function? To earn money? To stay relevant?

Anyway, if you have any photos or content socked away in Yahoo!Groups, you may want to try and retrieve it.

The article says that the groups will continue to live as email groups. I wonder how long that will last. One Yahoo group I'm on has effectively moved to FB (without me; as I won't ever be on FB). The Freecycle groups I subscribe to are also on Yahoo groups; I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens to them.

Thanks for the heads up! Because there sure hasn't been any notice from Yahoo on these happenings.

Thank you! Yes, I got some news, but I had a couple little Yahoo groups I started and Yahoo sure didn't tell me. A couple larger groups I was in began panicking and also they both went down the FB route which just about made me grab my head. (Thank you for pointing out the privacy issues, Cal. Feels like barely anyone even cares about that. Too hypnotized, I suppose.)

I suggested googlegroups to one group but I got no response. I don't even remember if googlegroups keeps images, but it made me glad I'd already created one for what I had started as a yahoo newsgroup. (Then the IO option came up. One set of people switched to that.)

From what I've seen when I log-out of Yahoo: they make money being the new National Inquirer (or perhaps the new Weekly World News). Lot of tabloid style 'news' and tons of people commenting/gossiping. (I don't suggest you look.)

Anyway, this is why it's good to have storage somewhere. So many web companies come and go, promises or no promise it shall be eternal. [profile] _@ (Also good to know which stuff is commercial and which isn't. Hence I love this site!)

Whoops, sorry. I was trying to make a spiral-eyes emoticon and it turned into something else. :/
