calzephyr: Imoen from BG (RPG)
It seems like it's been a while since I made a game post! I finished up Hidden Expedition: Everest this morning. It's from the Big Fish Games studio and no one makes hidden object games quite like they do. Until IBM's Watson can successfully solve a hidden object game, I won't be very impressed with his performance on Jeopardy. There's over 20 levels of hidden object pictures with a scrambled picture puzzle for the level boss. I have played many HOGs, as they're called, and no one else has the humour BFG plants...it's hard to explain, just something you experience!

Their latest game, The 13th Skull is really quite amazing and immersive compared to their older games. A lot of HOG fans seemed to waver over the overall quality of the game. Some people didn't like the hokey actors, but I loved them. They were kind of an in-joke. There were more puzzles than hidden objects, so that seemed to divide fans. However the music and art quality was superb!

I have played some pretty lousy HOGs - The Lost Cases of 221B Baker Street comes to mind. Most HOGs lean towards a crime to solve, and it seemed like a really good idea, but the screens were uninspired and pretty easy, as well as the puzzles. Oh gee, another torn up note to put together? More memory match? Ugh! Plus the stories really didn't make sense - in solving the screens you found out clues about the suspects and then had to eliminate the suspects at the end by noticing which picture changed. The choice of suspects seemed pretty random and there was no possibility for deduction or solving the mystery as you went along, so I thought that was pretty lame.
